My latest travelogue is America 2006, which is about a month-long trip that a friend and I made in the USA, visiting Washington D.C., then driving through Virginia, Pennsylvania and Maryland, with short trips in and out of a couple of other states nearby. Virginia, an English colony founded in 1607, contains some fine period buildings, including Mount Vernon, where the first President, George Washington, lived. Also in Virginia are the Appalachian Mountains, where the scenery is quite spectacular. In Pennsylvania we stayed in a house owned by an Amish couple and experienced some aspects of the unique Amish way of life. Like Virginia, Maryland boasts some excellent period buildings. All in all, this was a fascinating trip!
