My latest travelogue is ‘A Week in Sicily’: a trip that I made in 2016. I was very interested to visit Sicily as it is such a fascinating island with an extraordinary mixture of different cultures. We visited the capital, Palermo, then drove down to Giardini Naxos, where we were based. From here we made trips to Mount Etna, Taormina and Syracuse. I also went to the very beautiful old town of Noto to view the wonderful architecture there. It was certainly a trip worth making!

A week in Romania (2017)
My latest travelogue is about a very interesting one-week tour around Romania, organized by The Travel Department (Ireland), which I went on back in October, 2017. We were brought to the wonderful old Saxon towns of Sighisoara, Sibiu, Brasov (pictured above), and then the capital Bucharest. As I had long wanted to visit Romania, IContinue reading “A week in Romania (2017)”

My latest travelogue is an account of a five-week tour around Paris and its environs, the Loire Valley, and the Dordogne Valley back in May and June, 1981. Iceland 1980
One of the most extraordinary journeys that I’ve made has to be a crazy ‘safari’ trip across the island of Iceland in a couple of old buses and a kitchen van back in 1980. As the scenery was so unusual, travelling across Iceland was like visiting another planet! There were no roads, the vehicles hadContinue reading “Iceland 1980”

My latest travelogue is about a fascinating organized trip that I joined in 1996, which brought a bunch of young and enthusiastic people from Ireland and the UK to Lima in Peru and then down to La Paz in Bolivia, using local transport most of the time. It was probably the most memorable and excitingContinue reading “Peru and Bolivia, 1996”
