You’ll now find the first part of ‘In High Places’ added to the Travelogues section. This is about a couple of treks I joined in Ladakh (a region just north-west of the Himalyas), and one in nearby Jammu and Kashmir, back in 1985. Ladakh once used to be a Tibetan kingdom; the people are Tibetan, they speak a dialect of the Tibetan language, and their religion is Tibetan Buddhism. Nowadays the Ladakh region is divided between three different countries: India, Pakistan and The People’s Republic of China (out of bounds for tourists). You’ll see a map in the introduction that shows where it’s situated. Parts Two and Three (Bhutan and Tibet) will follow in due course.
